BioWare has largely shifted its focus away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but the dedicated team still managing the game has quietly introduced a new DLC in the form of a weapons pack. Dragon Age enthusiasts were taken aback when the RPG's Steam page was updated to showcase the Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer as free add-on content. This unexpected addition comes as a pleasant surprise, especially after EA indicated that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would not see much further support. The game's fifth patch, released back in January, had suggested that future updates would primarily address critical bugs. Therefore, this new content, albeit modest, feels like a small miracle.
The Rook’s Weapons Appearances bundle is exclusively available to current owners of the game and those who purchase it on PC before the deadline of April 8, 2025. Details about the bundle's contents remain sparse, but the community has deduced that it includes a set of Watchful skins, accessible in the Rook's in-game room. It's uncertain whether this offer will extend to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.
Feedback from the community has been mixed but generally positive. A Steam review noted, "Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever, they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!" Meanwhile, a comment on Reddit encapsulated the sentiment, saying, "It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content. I'll live with that."
Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched to favorable reviews in October but, according to EA, did not capture a wide enough audience. Key team members announced their departure from BioWare in late January, as significant portions of the staff were either laid off or reassigned within the company. At that time, EA informed IGN that the studio would be fully focusing on the next installment of the Mass Effect series.
In a move to keep the game accessible, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was added to the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles lineup, only four months after its release. No further plans for the game's future have been disclosed.
