Hoopla
Hoopla boasts one of the internet's most extensive and diverse free manga collections. A free library card is required, but once obtained, you'll have access to an incredible range of titles. Highlights include the complete Berserk by Kentaro Miura, Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama, classics like Fairy Tail and Lone Wolf and Cub, and newer gems like Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service. The collection includes multi-volume series, complete runs, and hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. No holds or waiting periods – everything is instantly available!
Libby
While Hoopla is a popular choice, don't overlook Libby. This app offers a vast selection of free digital books, including a substantial manga library. Availability varies by local library system, but many libraries offer titles like One Piece, Naruto, Spy x Family, Vampire Hunter D, My Hero Academia, and Demon Slayer. While some publishers (like Viz and Kodansha) only offer free first volumes on their websites, Libby often provides complete series. Note that availability may be limited, similar to a physical library, but you can place holds for future access.
Viz
Viz, a major English-language manga publisher, offers a significant portion of its catalog online. Most series include generous free previews (20-60 pages per volume), featuring classics like Ranma 1/2 by Rumiko Takahashi, modern hits like Chainsaw Man by Tatsuki Fujimoto, and cult favorites like Tekkonkinkreet by Taiyō Matsumoto. While not entirely free, the Viz Manga App provides extensive access for a small monthly fee, with free trials available. The website offers numerous first chapters from popular series, including My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, One Punch Man, and many more.
Shonen Jump
Another Viz offering, the Shonen Jump App provides free chapters without a paid subscription (a low-cost subscription is available). This app offers access to many Weekly Shonen Jump titles, including One Piece, Dragon Ball Super, Boruto, Kaiju No. 8, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Unlike other free options, it often includes the latest chapters of popular manga, making it ideal for staying current.
Kodansha
Kodansha, a renowned manga publisher, provides free first volumes or chapters of many titles, including Sailor Moon, Attack on Titan, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Akira, through a free Kodansha Reader account. Their Limited Spotlight Series offers rotating access to additional volumes. The K MANGA app offers another option, though it has a daily chapter limit and a point system.
MANGA Plus by Shueisha
Brought to you by Shueisha, Japan's largest publisher, the MANGA Plus app offers free chapters from many popular Weekly Shonen Jump titles, including Chainsaw Man, Spy X Family, Choujin X, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. While full series access requires a paid subscription, the free selection provides excellent opportunities to sample new series.
Amazon
While Amazon's free manga selection is less extensive, it offers some free Kindle titles and previews from various publishers. Amazon also frequently offers discounted manga, particularly boxed sets.
