While starting with basic equipment, players progressively uncover weapons better suited to their preferred playstyles. This game blends roguelike and extraction game elements, resulting in a unique approach to acquiring new weapons.

Acquiring New Weapons in Hyper Light Breaker

Exploring Overgrowths is the primary method for discovering new gear. While exploration naturally yields new items, focusing on sword or pistol icons on the map directly leads to Blades (melee weapons) and Rails (ranged weapons), respectively. Blades offer diverse movesets and abilities, while Rails feature unique functionalities. Both weapon types come in varying rarities, with gold being the most potent. Rarity, as expected, directly correlates with weapon stats.

To save any Overgrowth weapon for later use, press the Cache button instead of Equip. These cached weapons can then be equipped before commencing a new run.

Obtaining New Starting Weapons

Beyond finding weapons during gameplay, players can purchase new starting equipment from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, only the Blades merchant is accessible. Unlocking the Rails merchant requires gathering sufficient materials to repair their shop.

Merchants maintain limited stock, but their inventories refresh periodically. If initial offerings are unsatisfactory, revisiting later may reveal desirable items.

Weapon Upgrades

Weapon upgrades are available at the Outpost merchants, but require unlocking the upgrade functionality by increasing merchant affinity. This is achieved by collecting Golden Rations, a rare resource found through exploration or cycle resets. Due to their scarcity, judicious use of Golden Rations is advised.

Upon death, equipped weapons lose a segment of durability, represented by the bar beneath their icons. Repeated deaths will eventually break the weapon.
