If you're aiming for the best ending in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, completing specific tasks is crucial, and saving Sam is a key part of that journey. To achieve perfection, it's essential to know where to find Sam and how to rescue him effectively.
Rescuing Sam During "Reckoning"
As you approach the climax of the main quest line, you'll discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer's Camp, captured by Brabant. Your opportunity to save him comes during the main quest "Reckoning." However, simply walking into the camp to free him isn't an option. You'll need to choose between stealth and violence to infiltrate the camp.
To move around the camp without arousing suspicion, you'll need a guard's outfit. You can obtain one by either killing a guard and hiding his body or by looting one of the many chests scattered throughout the camp. Once you have the outfit equipped, you can explore the camp freely in search of Sam.
When to Rescue Sam
After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to leave the camp with him. Sam informs you about von Aulitz, who is also present in the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, and finally return to Sam to escort him out of the camp. Sam can wait safely while you handle these tasks, and this order makes the process smoother as you'll need to carry him to the horse.
Von Aulitz can be found in the main part of the camp. Wearing the guard outfit allows you to enter his quarters without being stopped by the guards. Upon finding von Aulitz, who is already dying, he requests a dignified death. Granting his wish is the most honorable choice. Alternatively, you can kill him brutally or leave him to die slowly. Interestingly, leaving him to die actually contributes to achieving the best ending.
Once you've dealt with von Aulitz, your next steps are to retrieve Sam and secure a horse. Sam remains in the barn where you left him. If a guard questions your actions, simply explain that you're moving a body, which should dispel any suspicion. Exit the camp through the gates, turn right, and follow the perimeter to reach the stables.
