In Reverse: 1999, upgrading your characters is vital for advancing through both the main story and challenging endgame content. While high-rarity units like Regulus or Eternity provide a significant advantage, they only truly shine when fully leveled, promoted, and equipped with optimal gear. Mastering each upgrade system and allocating resources wisely is crucial for constructing an efficient and powerful roster. This guide outlines all the essential processes you need to keep in mind while building your dream team!
Leveling Your Characters – The First Step to Power
The most fundamental way to strengthen your units is through leveling. Every character begins at Level 1 and gains EXP from items called Sharpodonty (available in I, II, and III variants). These materials are earned via battles, daily stages, and special events. As characters level up, their base stats—such as HP, Attack, and Defense—improve significantly, enabling them to endure longer and deal more damage.

This strategy is particularly effective for lower-rarity characters, specifically 4-star and 5-star units, which are more likely to be obtained multiple times. Securing duplicates or rare universal materials is necessary to fully pursue 6-star units.
Psychubes
Psychubes are unique equippable items that function similarly to relics or artifacts in other RPGs. They provide passive benefits such as increased ATK, DEF, Crit Rate, healing boosts, and various other advantages. High-rarity Psychubes, especially those of 4-star and 5-star quality, offer distinct effects tailored to specific character roles (e.g., DPS, Healer).
Each character can equip only one Psychube at a time. These items can be upgraded by consuming duplicate cubes or using specific enhancement materials. Choosing the right Psychube makes a substantial difference; for instance, Regulus performs significantly better when equipped with His Bounden Duty, which boosts her critical damage output.
Resonance
Resonance is an endgame character progression system akin to a talent tree. It allows you to unlock minor passive stat bonuses and occasionally modify skill effects using Resonance Materials. This feature becomes available only after reaching specific character milestones.
