Chris Evans Says He Isn't Returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Another Avengers

Chris Evans Denies Return to Marvel Cinematic Universe Despite Rumors

Despite reports suggesting otherwise, Chris Evans has definitively stated he will not be reprising his role as Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday or any other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film. Evans directly refuted a Deadline report claiming his return alongside Robert Downey Jr., calling it "not true" in an interview with Esquire.

This contradicts information shared by Anthony Mackie, the current Captain America, who previously stated his manager informed him of Evans' return. However, Mackie subsequently spoke with Evans, who confirmed his retirement from the MCU remains firm. Evans himself reiterated this to Esquire, stating he is "happily retired" and that such rumors resurface periodically since Avengers: Endgame.

While Evans has returned to the superhero genre in a comedic capacity as Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine, his statement firmly shuts down any speculation regarding a significant return to his Captain America role.

The MCU's future remains somewhat uncertain following the removal of Jonathan Majors, who was cast as Kang, the planned successor to Thanos, after facing assault and harassment charges. This has led to Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., being positioned as the new antagonist, sparking speculation about the return of other original Avengers. However, no further returns have been officially confirmed.

Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed Doctor Strange's absence from Avengers: Doomsday but hinted at a "central role" in the sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars. The Russo Brothers are directing Avengers: Doomsday, which is expected to continue the multiverse storyline, with Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter also rumored to appear.
