Call of Duty Outrage: Tweet Reignites Hacking Concerns

Activision's recent Call of Duty promotional tweet ignites player fury. The tweet, promoting a new Squid Game-themed store bundle, has garnered over 2 million views and a torrent of negative responses. This backlash stems from widespread dissatisfaction with persistent in-game issues affecting both Warzone and Black Ops 6.

The controversy centers on Activision's perceived prioritization of monetization over addressing critical gameplay problems. Both titles are plagued by rampant cheating in ranked play, alongside server instability and other significant bugs. Prominent players, including Scump, have publicly criticized the franchise's current state, deeming it the worst it's ever been.

The January 8th tweet, promoting the VIP bundle, proved to be a PR disaster. Players, including prominent content creators like FaZe Swagg, accused Activision of being tone-deaf, highlighting the disconnect between the company's promotional efforts and the community's concerns. CharlieIntel noted the severe limitations imposed on players by the broken ranked play system, contrasting it with the focus on new bundles. Many players, such as Taeskii, vowed to boycott future store purchases until the anti-cheat measures are improved.

This discontent is further evidenced by a significant drop in player numbers on Steam. Since Black Ops 6's October 2024 release, Steam player counts have plummeted by over 47%. While data for PlayStation and Xbox remains unavailable, this decline strongly suggests widespread player attrition linked to the ongoing issues. The combination of persistent bugs, rampant cheating, and Activision's seemingly dismissive response has pushed many players to abandon the game.
