Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly formidable foes. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor in Avowed.

Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above), located at Party Camps. These camps are established near Adra Waystones scattered throughout the world. Interact with a Waystone to set up camp; these locations are marked on your map with a tent icon and are fast-travel points. Upgrades require various materials, readily found, crafted, or obtained through progression. However, advancing a weapon's Quality necessitates progressively rarer Adra.

Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels in Avowed

Weapons and armor in Avowed have a dual power level system. The primary metric is Quality, denoted by a numerical value, color rarity, and descriptive adjective. This directly correlates to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Gear with lower Quality than encountered enemies proves less effective.

Under-leveled gear significantly reduces damage output and defense. Conversely, matching or exceeding enemy Quality provides optimal performance. Here's the Quality breakdown:

• Common – Green, Level I
• Fine – Blue, Level II
• Exceptional – Purple, Level III
• Superb – Red, Level IV
• Legendary – Gold, Level V

Each Quality tier allows for three additional (+0 to +3) upgrade levels. While less impactful than Quality increases, these still boost stats. All three sub-levels must be maxed before advancing to the next Quality.

Strategic Gear Enhancement: Prioritize Unique Items

Beyond Quality and sub-levels, Avowed features standard and Unique gear. Standard items are common loot or merchant purchases. Unique gear, named and often possessing unique properties, is typically acquired through quests or boss encounters. Some merchants may offer select Unique items.

Crucially, Unique weapons and armor can reach Legendary Quality, unlike standard gear (capped at Superb). Unique items also boast superior bonuses and perks. Therefore, prioritize upgrading Unique gear, reserving resources for these superior items. Standard gear serves as temporary equipment, potentially sold or salvaged for upgrade materials.
