Little Bee

The Kiwanis Club of New Kingston (KCNK) is thrilled to introduce the KCNK Little Bee Spelling App, a fun and educational tool designed for kids aged 4 to 9. Sponsored by Grace Kennedy Money Services (GKMS) and Western Union (WU), this app brings the excitement of the well-known Primary & Prep school spelling Bee competition right to your fingertips.

The KCNK Little Bee Game offers three engaging modes: Learning Mode 1, Learning Mode 2, and Competition Mode, each with 10 levels of progressively challenging words. You can play anywhere, anytime, without an internet connection. Each level includes at least 15 words to master, and the words remain the same across all modes.

In the Settings section, students can personalize their experience by entering their name, age, parish, and school. They can then choose their preferred mode to start spelling.

Learning Mode 1 helps kids learn by tapping each letter of a word from left to right. The app pronounces each letter, allowing children to practice saying it aloud. If a mistake is made, it can be easily undone by tapping on it. To hear the word again, just tap the little bee icon at the top left. Correctly spelling each word is necessary to progress to the next, and all words must be spelled correctly to complete a level. Students can retry any level at any time, but must finish earlier levels before moving on.

Learning Mode 2 challenges students with jumbled letters. They must rearrange the letters to spell the word correctly. Mistakes can be corrected by tapping on them, and the word can be replayed by tapping the little bee icon. As with Learning Mode 1, all words need to be spelled correctly to advance and complete a level, with the option to retry levels at any time.

Competition Mode adds an extra layer of challenge by including additional jumbled letters. Students must quickly and accurately spell 10 randomly selected words from the level's pool. They are timed, and the total time for the level is recorded. The goal is to complete each level as fast as possible, with the leaderboard displaying the time spent on each level.

Students can reset the game anytime via the Settings page. It's important to wait until a letter's pronunciation finishes before selecting the next one. Both students and parents are encouraged to take screenshots of the leaderboard to share with teachers.
