"Capcom Revives Breath of Fire IV on PC, 25 Years Later"

Author : Lillian Update:May 07,2025

The classic role-playing game, Breath of Fire IV, has made a triumphant return to PC gaming, 25 years following its initial debut. Originally launched on the PlayStation in 2000 in Japan and North America, and in 2001 in Europe, it saw a PC release in Europe and Japan in 2003. The storyline follows Ryu, a character distinct from Capcom’s other famous Ryu, who possesses the unique ability to transform into a dragon. Alongside a band of warriors, Ryu endeavors to thwart an emperor’s plans to obliterate the world.

As part of its Preservation Program, GOG has meticulously updated Breath of Fire IV to ensure compatibility with modern PC systems. The game is now available DRM-free on the GOG platform, fully optimized for Windows 10 and 11. Players can enjoy the game in both English and Japanese, benefiting from enhanced graphics courtesy of an upgraded DirectX renderer. New display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and improved gamma correction enhance the visual experience. Additionally, the audio has been revamped, restoring missing environmental sounds and introducing new configuration options for an enriched auditory experience.
