Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has moved to reassure worried shareholders in the wake of Grand Theft Auto VI's delay.
Rockstar Games announced a substantial delay for GTA VI earlier today, a title anticipated to become the largest entertainment launch in history. Originally slated for a Fall 2025 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game is now scheduled for May 26, 2026. This shifts the release from Take-Two's 2026 fiscal year into its 2027 fiscal year.
Following the news, Take-Two's stock experienced an early trading drop of 7.98% at the time of writing. In a corporate statement, the company reaffirmed its projection for sequential growth and record Net Bookings (revenue) in both Fiscal Years 2026 and 2027.
Zelnick personally addressed the situation, confirming Take-Two's full support for Rockstar's decision to delay GTA VI. He assured shareholders that the company is positioned for a "multi-year" growth phase.
"We wholeheartedly support Rockstar Games taking the necessary time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which is poised to be a groundbreaking, blockbuster experience that surpasses consumer expectations," stated Zelnick.
"While we treat scheduling changes with the utmost seriousness and recognize the immense global excitement for GTA VI, our commitment to delivering excellence remains unwavering. As we continue to roll out our impressive pipeline of titles, we anticipate a sustained period of business growth and increased shareholder value."
With GTA VI and its expected multi-billion dollar revenue now deferred from the 2026 fiscal calendar, what other projects does Take-Two have lined up? Beyond owning Rockstar, Take-Two's portfolio includes publishers 2K Games and 2K Sports. Gearbox's Borderlands 4 is set for a September release, and Mafia: The Old Country is also scheduled for this year. Another profitable NBA 2K26 title from 2K Sports is also expected. Further out, the next BioShock installment and Ken Levine's new project, Judas, are in development.
Realistically, however, none of 2K's upcoming releases over the next year can compensate for the absence of the GTA VI behemoth, leaving Take-Two's revenue projections lower than initially planned. While many fans expressed disappointment at the delay, few were genuinely surprised, though some had hoped for a new screenshot to lessen the impact.
