The console market once lacked robust strategy games, aside from a few exceptions and unsuccessful attempts (like StarCraft's clumsy debut on the Nintendo 64). However, numerous titles now offer intricate gameplay on living room-friendly platforms, especially on Xbox consoles.
Xbox Game Pass provides a wealth of options for aspiring armchair commanders. Whether you prefer managing a vast galactic empire or directing quirky invertebrates in bomb-slinging antics, Game Pass has a strategy game for you.
Note that tactical games, while technically a distinct genre, are included due to their shared characteristics with strategy games.

While often overlooked, new strategy games are expected on the service, with a couple confirmed. Commandos: Origins and Football Manager 25 are likely to appeal to genre fans, particularly the former. In the meantime, subscribers can explore a strategy game added to Game Pass in December 2024.
