In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, navigating the vast battlefields can be a challenge, especially when you need to quickly reach other officers to turn the tide of battle in your favor. While there's no direct sprint button—your character automatically transitions into a sprint after a few steps—having a horse at your disposal can significantly enhance your mobility and combat effectiveness. Whether you're looking to traverse the battlefield swiftly or engage in hit-and-run tactics from horseback, mastering the use of horses is crucial. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to unlock your first horse, level it up, and switch between different steeds.
How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Unlocking your first horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a straightforward process that happens during Chapter 1. After successfully completing the "Test of Zheng Fei," a key battle, a merchant will appear in the overworld. You'll encounter him as you journey northeast from Wan Castle towards the Battle of Guangzong, but before reaching the camp. This merchant, standing next to his horse, will gift you your first steed upon conversation. Once you receive the horse, it will automatically be equipped and ready for use. To summon your horse and mount it instantly, press down on the left joystick if you're playing on a console or hit the 'V' key on your keyboard.
How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Leveling up your horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is essential for enhancing its capabilities and gaining access to unique buffs. Your horse earns XP whenever you complete missions or main story battles while it's equipped, regardless of whether you actively use it. Note that skirmishes do not contribute to your horse's XP. Missions, which are identified by a red diamond with a soldier icon, offer medium-length engagements that are key to earning XP. The amount of XP your horse gains depends on the battle's duration, how much you ride, and how frequently you charge into enemies. As your horse levels up, it unlocks special buffs at various intervals, which differ for each horse, making them more valuable in combat.
How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
While your first horse is automatically equipped, you'll have the opportunity to acquire and switch between different horses as you progress through the game. To switch or unequip a horse, navigate to the Battle Preparation menu, where you'll find the option at the bottom of the list on the left side of the screen. Each horse comes with its own set of perks, and some may be faster or offer better advantages than others, so it's worth considering a switch when you acquire a new one. To get new horses, you must maximize the peace level of a region, upon which a new horse will be available as a reward at a nearby waypoint.
