"Switch 2 to Sell Out at Launch, Analysts Say; June Release Eyed"

Author : Patrick Update:May 14,2025

The price of the Nintendo Switch 2 is a topic that's generating buzz across the gaming world. Industry analysts have shared insights with IGN, predicting that Nintendo's next-generation console could hit the market at a starting price of $400. This speculation has been reinforced by a Bloomberg report, which echoes the same price point based on forecasts from analysts focused on Japan. While a $400 price tag represents a notable increase from the original Nintendo Switch, there's chatter that Nintendo might even consider a higher launch price, possibly up to $499. Despite these potential price hikes, experts believe that the Switch 2 is poised for a monumental launch, potentially eclipsing all previous console debuts, no matter the cost.

"They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price," Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto confidently stated to Bloomberg.

The anticipated success of the Switch 2 at launch is largely attributed to the high demand for its initial game lineup. Serkan Toto expects a new Mario Kart, hinted at by Nintendo during the Switch 2's reveal, along with a new 3D Mario game, and the already announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, all set to launch within the console's first year. Additionally, Toto anticipates robust third-party support, including titles like Call of Duty from Activision.

There's a buzz around a plethora of rumored third-party titles slated for the console. In an interview with IGN, the developer of Civilization 7, Firaxis, found the Switch 2's rumored Joy-Con mouse mode "definitely intriguing." French gaming and accessories manufacturer Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed they have games ready for the Switch 2. The long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to be in the lineup, and last month, EA expressed enthusiasm about bringing Madden, FC, and The Sims to the Switch 2.

It's important to note that Activision has yet to officially announce its plans for the Switch 2, and Nintendo has remained silent on the Bloomberg report.

As for the release date, June 2025 is increasingly mentioned not only online but also within gaming media circles. Robin Zhu, a Japan-based analyst from Sanford C. Bernstein, told Bloomberg that the Switch 2 is expected to launch in June, with an initial stock of 6-8 million units. If Nintendo manages to sell through this inventory quickly, the Switch 2 could outpace its predecessor and the PlayStation 4 and 5, setting new sales records.

Concerns have been raised about the potential impact of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff war on the Nintendo Switch 2's pricing. The Trump administration has imposed new tariffs on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico, leading analysts to warn that these could affect the price and availability of video games, consoles, and other tech products. However, Bloomberg points out that the Switch 2 will be assembled in both Vietnam, a key U.S. trading partner, and China, which one analyst suggests could mitigate risks for Nintendo due to its diversified manufacturing strategy.

While much remains unknown about the Switch 2, Nintendo has scheduled a Direct for April 2, where they plan to unveil more details about the console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled earlier in January with a brief trailer that confirmed backwards compatibility features and the addition of a second USB-C port. However, many details, such as the console's other games and what the mysterious new Joy-Con button does, were left undisclosed. The Joy-Con mouse theory, however, has gained significant attention.

Last month, a Nintendo patent suggested that the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down. This indicates that the Switch 2 might utilize gyro mechanics similar to those in smartphones without screen lock. Unlike the original Nintendo Switch, which used rails to secure the Joy-Cons, the new controllers will feature magnets, allowing them to be attached on either side. While this change might not significantly impact the hardware, it will give players the flexibility to choose the positioning of certain buttons and the headphone port. If this feature makes it into the final product, it could lead to innovative gameplay mechanics.
