Believe it or not, a live-action Toys "R" Us movie is officially in development.
As reported by Variety, Story Kitchen — the production company behind recent video game adaptations like the Sonic the Hedgehog films — aims to "translate that sense of childhood wonder into a modern, action-packed adventure, drawing on the brand's rich 70-year legacy in the toy industry."
“Toys 'R' Us is a cultural landmark that still resonates with the kid inside all of us,” stated Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg. “As ‘80s kids who viewed Toys 'R' Us as a place of pure magic, we’re thrilled to help craft a movie that embodies the adventure, creativity, and nostalgia the brand is famous for.”

The film's concept draws from hits like Night at the Museum, Back to the Future, and Big, as well as successful toy-based franchises such as Barbie. Casting details remain under wraps, but producers include Johnson, Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Elena Sandoval from Story Kitchen, alongside Kim Miller Olko representing Toys "R" Us Studios.
“As the inaugural film for Toys "R" Us, this is a thrilling chance to translate our brand's magic to cinema,” said Kim Miller Olko, president of Toys "R" Us Studios. “The story will be as limitless as play itself, channeling the electrifying wonder central to the Toys "R" Us experience. We aim to capture the imagination, adventure, and sheer joy that has made us a beloved destination for generations.”
Story Kitchen's slate also includes other adaptations. Last year, the company announced a film based on Square Enix's Just Cause with director Ángel Manuel Soto attached. Projects for Dredge, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs are also in the works.
