Scopely Acquires Niantic, Developer of Pokémon Go

Author : Samuel Update:Apr 08,2025

It's a significant day for fans of Pokémon Go, not due to in-game developments, but because of a major business move. Niantic, the developer behind Pokémon Go, Pikmin Bloom, Monster Hunter Now, and Peridot, has been acquired by Scopely, the creators of the popular Monopoly Go! This acquisition means that Niantic's impressive lineup of games now falls under the umbrella of Scopely and their parent company, Savvy Games Group.

The deal was sealed for a staggering $3.5 billion. As part of this acquisition, Niantic's AR technology division will become a separate entity named Niantic Spatial, which will continue to operate Ingress Prime and Peridot. For fans, this transition is expected to cause minimal disruption to the service. However, for those interested in the broader gaming industry, this represents a significant shift.

This merger is a pivotal moment for both companies and could have substantial implications for the mobile gaming community, hopefully in a positive manner.

Given the success of Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now, alongside the continued dominance of Pokémon Go, it's unlikely that these games will experience any significant interruptions. However, the impact on the broader mobile gaming landscape remains to be seen, and this could mark a turning point in the industry.

With the upcoming Pokémon Go Fest set to take place in Paris, 2025 is already shaping up to be a landmark year for this beloved AR game.
