The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is a fantastic drive for both your gaming PC and PlayStation 5. It easily surpasses Sony's minimum speed requirements for the PS5, boasting sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s and 6,300 MB/s respectively. While not quite as fast as the 990 Pro, it's significantly faster than the standard 990 Evo. The key difference? This model lacks DRAM. However, for PS5 gaming, this is irrelevant. For PCs, it utilizes HMB (host memory buffer), effectively using a negligible amount of your system RAM. Gamers won't notice any performance gap.
This SSD doesn't include a pre-installed heatsink. But, as a newer single-sided design, it's energy-efficient and generates minimal heat. This means you likely won't need a heatsink, even in a PS5. However, adding one for extra peace of mind wouldn't hurt (though it might cost you around $7 extra).
