Pokémon TCG: Scarlet and Violet - Prismatic Evolutions Review: The Ultimate Crown Jewel of This Era

Author : Eric Update:Apr 01,2025

Pokémon TCG: Scarlet and Violet - Prismatic Evolutions marks the pinnacle of the build-up to Pokémania 2025. The set's overwhelming popularity led to sold-out preorders, with stock only now trickling back onto shelves and online platforms. Despite these challenges, it has quickly emerged as the crown jewel of the Scarlet and Violet era, showcasing beloved Eevee and its evolutions in breathtaking Special Illustration Rares and ultra-rare Master Ball foils.

This expansive set boasts over 200 cards, featuring powerful Pokémon such as Roaring Moon ex and Pikachu ex. It combines stunning artwork with competitive playability, making it an essential addition for both collectors and competitive players. Enhanced pull rates for Special Illustration Rares further enhance its appeal, offering fans a better chance at securing their dream cards amidst soaring demand.

These new sets aren't just about aesthetics; they introduce innovative mechanics like Budew's game-changing free attack and amplify the thrill of pack opening with enhanced rarity tiers. Whether you're hunting for Eeveelution family cards or seeking tournament-ready additions, Prismatic Evolutions caters to all. It's more than just an expansion; it's a defining moment for a generation of Pokémon TCG enthusiasts.

In my experience, pulling cards from Prismatic Evolutions has been challenging. While this can help maintain the value of Special Illustration Rares, it's disappointing when 25 booster packs don't yield the desired results. Let's explore some of the exciting cards I managed to pull and discuss other notable additions to determine if Prismatic Evolutions lives up to its hype.

Glaceon ex (Suprise Box Promo Stamp) 026/131

Glaceon ex has the potential to be a strong playable card, capable of accumulating enough damage on an opponent's bench to knock out a Pokémon before it enters play. The challenge lies in managing multiple energies for Tera ex-cards, but a Glaceon Tera ex deck in action would be highly entertaining.

Eevee Elite Trainer Box Promo 173

With its stunning full artwork, this card is likely to find a home in trainers' binders rather than decks. As the standard Eevee card in this set, it allows for immediate evolution, simplifying the construction of an Eeveelution deck.

Mela Trainer SAR 140/131

Mela is a potent trainer card that can be crucial at the right moment. It enables players to retrieve a fire energy from the discard pile while drawing six cards, proving invaluable in the mid to late game. Its rarity makes it a collector's item, despite the regular Mela card being easier to obtain.

Pikachu ex 028/131

Prismatic Evolutions addresses the FOMO from Surging Sparks with Pikachu ex, although it's not a Tera ex. With Thunder, it's a straightforward basic ex that can achieve one-hit knockouts in three turns. Despite its high energy cost, its one energy retreat cost makes it versatile for switching in and out from the bench.

Max Rod Ace Spec 116/131

This card has the power to completely turn a battle around. Imagine recovering Tyranitar ex and its four energy cards after a knockout, then rebuilding from the bench. Max Rod is one of the most impactful Ace Specs we've seen.

Espeon ex 034/131

Credit: The Pokémon Company International / Christian Wait
Espeon ex decks are poised to be formidable due to their ability to discard from an opponent's hand and de-evolve all opposing Pokémon, shuffling the evolution cards back into their deck. A single Espeon ex can prolong a battle and wear down opponents, making a deck with four of them exceptionally powerful.

Tyranitar ex 064/131

At first glance, Tyranitar ex's Grind attack seems promising. However, as a second-stage evolution requiring a minimum of three energy cards to become effective, it falls short of expectations. While I'm a fan of Tyranitar, this ex-card doesn't meet the mark.

My Favorite Prismatic Evolution Cards

While the Eeveelution SIR cards are highly sought after, there are other remarkable artworks in this expansion that might be worth considering if you spot a good deal.

Dragapult ex SAR 165/131

Dragapult ex SAR 165/131 features one of my favorite artworks from this set, and I'm seriously considering building a deck around Phantom Dive. With a two-energy cost for a combined 260 damage, including 60 spreadable to the opponent's bench, it's a formidable move. Keep an eye on this card; its value is likely to rise as trainers seek to include it in their decks.

Roaring Moon ex SIR 162/131

Roaring Moon ex SIR is another powerhouse with stunning artwork. While its triple energy cost for attacks is steep, this basic Pokémon card could be the deciding factor in a close battle. Building a deck with Stadium cards and support around Roaring Moon ex sounds like an intriguing strategy.

Umbreon ex SIR 161/131

Credit: The Pokémon Company International / Christian Wait
Although an Umbreon ex SIR card costing over $1200 might not be used in decks, its impressive moveset is tempting. Like Roaring Moon ex, this card has the potential to turn the tide of a Pokémon TCG battle at the last moment. Despite requiring three different energy types, it's an exciting addition to an Eeveelution deck centered around Umbreon ex.

Considering everything, is Prismatic Evolutions worth the hype? Absolutely. The set offers a wealth of stunning cards for collectors and plenty of playable options for competitive players. However, you might need to wait for stock to become available. Eeveelution-themed sets will always be popular, but the odds of pulling an Eeveelution SIR are about 1 in 900 booster packs.

The inclusion of God packs and Master Ball cards adds an exciting element. Imagine pulling every SIR in one booster pack? It's a rare occurrence, so be prepared to open many packs and boxes.

Where to Buy Pokémon TCG: Prismatic Evolutions in 2025

Stock for Pokémon TCG: Prismatic Evolutions has been scarce, but it's slowly becoming more available. With Pokémon's renewed popularity, driven by TCG Pocket, investors, and increased demand for sets like Surging Sparks, it's an exciting time to be part of the hobby. The Pokémon Company is working diligently to restock shelves, making it easier to purchase Prismatic Evolutions products online or in-store, avoiding the secondary market.
