Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled an exciting roadmap for Overwatch 2 Stadium in 2025, detailing the heroes and features set to be introduced in Season 17, Season 18, Season 19, and beyond. In a Director's Take blog post, game director Aaron Keller shares insights into the new mode’s past, present, and future, including a surprise summer roadmap released just over a week after Stadium's launch.
Stadium Gets 7 New Heroes This Summer
The Stadium mode is set to expand with the introduction of new heroes starting with Freja, a Damage hero, who will join in a mid-season patch for Season 16. The real excitement begins in Season 17 in June, when Junkrat, Sigma, and Zenyatta will become playable, accompanied by the new Esperança Push map and Samoa Control map.
During Season 17, Blizzard plans to enhance the Stadium experience by introducing features such as Unranked Crossplay, new all-star rewards, custom games, additional example builds, and the ability to save and share builds. It's not yet clear whether all these heroes and features will be available at the start of Season 17 or rolled out throughout the season.
Season 18 will see the addition of Winston, Sojourn, and Brigitte to the roster, along with the Route 66 and London maps. A new Payload Race game mode, complete with two new maps, a Stadium trials feature, and the option to Endorse teammates will also be introduced.
Blizzard has assured players that multiple new heroes, both from the existing Overwatch 2 lineup and unrevealed characters, will be added to Stadium every season. For Season 19 and beyond, a new China map and a Draft Mode feature are in the works, alongside consumables, item system tweaks, and other enhancements.

How has Stadium Performed so Far?
The Overwatch 2 team has shared impressive performance stats for Stadium, revealing it as the most played mode in the game. During its launch week, Stadium surpassed Quick Play and Competitive, with 2.3 million matches played across 7.8 million hours. This is more than double the engagement seen during Overwatch Classic’s launch week.
Notable statistics include Lucio having the highest win rate and the lowest pick rate, while players have spent a staggering 900 billion Stadium Cash on 206 million item builds.
Keller's Director's Take also clarifies that Stadium has been in development since before Overwatch 2 launched, debunking theories that it was created to compete with Marvel Rivals, which debuted in December 2024.
Blizzard promises to maintain open communication, with more insights into Stadium expected in next week's Director's Take. Despite Stadium's popularity, Keller emphasizes Blizzard's commitment to core Overwatch experiences like Quick Play and Competitive, stating that Stadium is not competing for resources but rather offering new ways to enjoy the game.
“Before signing off, I'd like to reiterate the team’s commitment to the Core modes of Overwatch," Keller said. "We’re still pouring as much time, energy and passion into these as we always have. Stadium isn't competing for those resources: it’s giving us more opportunities to deliver Overwatch in a new, exciting way.
"We can't wait for you to see what's coming there, especially Season 18. It's going to be a banger! Have fun with Stadium and, as always, let’s make a great game.”
Stadium was introduced with the launch of Season 16 last week as part of Blizzard’s efforts to reinvigorate the Overwatch player base. This initiative, which began with a comprehensive Spotlight presentation in February, has led to the return of loot boxes and an improved Steam rating, with many players feeling that this is the best Overwatch experience in years.
