With just days remaining until the Nintendo Switch 2 officially launches on June 5, Nintendo has overhauled its Nintendo Switch Online app, debuting under a new name: the Nintendo Switch App.
This marks a major rebranding effort, particularly since "Nintendo Switch Online" has long been synonymous with Nintendo's subscription-based online gaming service. Subscriptions provide access to online multiplayer features for competing or cooperating with friends, along with a vast library of classic titles spanning four decades, including games from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, and Nintendo 64. Additionally, subscribers will gain access to new GameCube libraries upon the release of the Nintendo Switch 2.
The app's version 3.0.1 update removes "Online" from its title and features a refreshed interface designed for improved usability. The update fully supports Nintendo Switch 2 consoles and introduces GameChat invitations. Users can also manage their friends list directly within the app and opt to receive notifications when friends come online.
Perhaps the most appealing feature — at least for me — is an enhanced system for managing screenshots and videos, which can now be uploaded directly to the app.Below are the complete patch notes as published on the App Store.

Nintendo Switch 2 consoles are now fully supported. Screenshots and videos stored in the console's album can be uploaded directly to the app. GameChat invitations are now available. Additional friend management features have been added, including the ability to add friends via the app. Users can choose to receive notifications when a friend comes online. Various minor improvements and bug fixes have also been implemented.
The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 — featuring mouse controls as expected — is scheduled for release next week on June 5.
