Monster Hunter Wilds has seen a sharp drop in player numbers, as MH World slowly closes the gap. Discover the reasons behind MH Wilds’ declining player base and its first official collaboration.
Monster Hunter Wilds’ Player Count Goes Way Down
From Over 1 Million to 40k
Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) was one of this year’s biggest hits, quickly becoming Capcom’s fastest-selling title. Yet, after its explosive launch, player enthusiasm has cooled—concurrent player counts have plunged significantly since the game’s third month.
As noted by Monster Hunter YouTuber Zenny, MH Wilds’ peak concurrent players dropped by nearly half starting in May, bringing its numbers closer to the much older MH World. According to SteamDB, MH Wilds peaked at 41,101 players in the last 24 hours, while MH World currently sits at 26,479.
For reference, during its third month on Steam, MH World drew over 100,000 concurrent players—far outpacing MH Wilds’ current tally of around 40,000. Many believe this decline stems from a lack of endgame content, even after Title Update 1. With Title Update 2 slated for this summer, the game could see a resurgence through new monsters, events, and expanded gameplay.
MH Wilds x Street Fighter Collab Teased
Another potential catalyst for player return is a collaboration with Capcom’s iconic Street Fighter franchise. On May 19, Monster Hunter posted a Twitter (X) image featuring a paw print styled after Street Fighter 6’s urban aesthetic.
Though unconfirmed, such a partnership wouldn’t be unexpected—MH World previously partnered with Street Fighter, introducing Ryu and Sakura armor sets, paid DLC gestures like Hadoken and Shoryuken, Chun-Li’s Handler outfit, and more.
This would be MH Wilds’ first collaboration, and fans are eager to see how Capcom will bring the crossover to life. The Monster Hunter series has a history of high-profile crossovers, including Devil May Cry and Sonic for MH4, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem for MH Gen U, and Assassin’s Creed and Mega Man for MH World—along with many others.
Still, many anticipate MH Wilds’ player count will rebound as the year progresses, thanks to upcoming content and long-term plans. Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. To stay updated on the latest Monster Hunter Wilds news, explore our article below!
