After nearly ten years since its initial reveal, Nintendo is set to release Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on December 4, 2025, for both Switch and Switch 2 consoles.
The studio confirmed this date during today's major Nintendo Direct broadcast, putting an end to months of rumors regarding the game's status. Since the Switch 2 reveal event in early April, no new footage had surfaced, leading fans to speculate that development might have hit a snag or faced further delays.
However, today's presentation offered fresh gameplay footage showcasing Samus piloting a motorbike-like vehicle across what appears to be an expansive open-world environment.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has endured a turbulent development journey. As the highly anticipated sequel to 2007's Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for the Wii, this fourth entry in the first-person action-adventure franchise had been long awaited by fans.
Development originally started at Bandai Namco Studios before Nintendo shifted production back to Retro Studios—the team behind the original trilogy—after two years due to dissatisfaction with progress. The project remained largely silent until its formal re-announcement in 2024, followed by confirmation that it would launch as a cross-generation title for Switch and Switch 2.
