Amazon Cancels Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Pre-Orders – What Does This Mean for the 2025 Release?
Reports surfaced on January 11, 2025, across various online platforms including Reddit and Resetera, indicating that Amazon has cancelled pre-orders for the highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Affected customers received emails citing "lack of availability" as the reason for the cancellation. Amazon has assured customers that pre-order refunds will be processed within one to two business days.
While disappointing for fans who pre-ordered since the game's initial announcement at E3 2017, the cancellation doesn't signal game cancellation. It simply means the title is temporarily unavailable for pre-order through Amazon.

The journey of Metroid Prime 4 has been a long one. Initially announced at E3 2017 without Retro Studios at the helm, development was later restarted under Retro Studios in 2019 due to development progress not meeting Nintendo's standards.
A full gameplay trailer showcased at a Nintendo Direct in June 2024 revealed the game's full title, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and its antagonist, Sylux. The trailer also confirmed a 2025 release window, a date reaffirmed by Nintendo on January 3, 2025.
The recent Amazon cancellation, while concerning, doesn't alter Nintendo's stated release timeline. The upcoming Switch 2 launch adds another layer of intrigue, leaving the question of which console will host the game's debut unanswered for now.
