To enhance gameplay and boost the popularity of lesser-played characters like Storm and Black Widow, NetEase Games implemented significant balance adjustments to the heroes of Marvel Rivals in January, as Season 1 kicked off. These changes have had a profound impact, particularly on Storm, who has experienced a remarkable surge in both popularity and effectiveness.
According to Rivals Meta, Storm now boasts the highest win rate in the game, a significant leap from her previous standing on the hero selection list. In competitive mode, her win percentage exceeds an impressive 56%, with her pick rate soaring to 16%. This is a stark contrast to her earlier days when she barely registered a 1% pick rate. Storm has now surpassed many popular heroes such as Adam Warlock, Jeff, Spider-Man, Hela, Hulk, Magic, and Iron Man, among others.
Despite Storm's rise, the duo of Cloak and Dagger remains the most popular character pairing of the first season. However, their win percentage has dipped below 49%. On the other end of the spectrum, Black Widow continues to be the least sought-after and least successful character in the game.
With hundreds of thousands of players engaging with the game, including its competitive mode, Marvel Rivals is witnessing substantial growth. Achieving the prestigious Grandmaster title remains an exclusive feat, attainable by only 0.1% of all players, even with the existence of the Celestial rank.
Reaching such heights is no easy task, but one player has achieved something extraordinary in the first season. This player reached Grandmaster without taking any damage across 108 games, solely focusing on healing teammates while playing as Rocket Raccoon. They managed to restore over 2.9 million health points during these matches and recorded nearly 3,500 assists, all while avoiding knockouts. This feat showcases the depth and potential for unique playstyles within Marvel Rivals.
