The Lenovo Legion Go 2 was first teased at CES 2025 alongside the AMD Z2 Extreme processor that will drive it. Now, Lenovo is set to release the device in October 2025, although an exact launch date has not yet been confirmed.
This next-generation handheld gaming PC will be offered in two main variants: a base model equipped with the standard AMD Z2 APU and a premium version featuring the more robust Z2 Extreme chip found in devices like the Asus ROG Ally X. Lenovo has revealed key specifications, noting that the Z2 Extreme configuration can support up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. Meanwhile, the $1,099 entry-level model pairs the base Z2 APU with 16GB of RAM, matching the memory capacity of its predecessor.
The most significant upgrade this generation is undoubtedly the screen. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 features a 1200p OLED display. While this resolution is lower than that of the original model, the shift to an OLED panel promises superior visual quality. Additionally, since one common critique of the first-gen device was its struggle to handle 1600p gaming smoothly, dropping to 1200p should result in better performance and frame rates.
Budget-conscious buyers may experience some sticker shock, as prices start at $1,099 for the standard Z2 model. The upgraded Z2 Extreme version begins at $1,349, with a fully maxed-out configuration priced at $1,479. For comparison, the original Legion Go launched in October 2023 at just $699. While the new chipsets should deliver substantial gaming performance gains, we will need to test them in our lab to determine if the higher price tag is justified.
