Legendary Duo Lugia and Ho-Oh Are Coming to Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket in Wisdom of Sea and Sky Expansion

The Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is launching a major new expansion soon—the Wisdom of Sea and Sky. Set to debut on July 30th, 2025, this expansion brings the legendary pair Lugia and Ho-Oh to mobile as EX cards.

What’s in store?

The new set centers on the Johto region. Lugia and Ho-Oh take center stage, joined by fan-favorites like the Eeveelutions, Baby Pokémon, and iconic Trainer cards such as Lyra and Silver.

This expansion also introduces a fresh way to play. For the first time in the game, some Pokémon will have attacks that don’t require Energy at all. This opens up exciting new possibilities for deck-building, especially for players who favor fast-paced strategies or want to break away from traditional Energy curves.

The expansion also adds new elements like the Energy Switch, Rescue Scarf, and the new Lyra and Silver Supporter cards. At the same time, the Lugia EX and Ho-Oh EX cards appear to be designed with decks that manage multiple types of Energy in mind.

The trade system in Pokémon TCG Pocket is getting major updates

Starting July 30th, 2025, at 06:00 UTC, a new wishlist system will let you mark up to 20 cards you’re looking for. You can also highlight up to three cards on your profile to show your top targets.

The trade currency is changing too. Trade tokens are being phased out—no more using them for trades. Instead, rare cards rated ♦♦♦, ♦♦♦♦, or ★ will now require a new resource called shinedust.

You can earn shinedust by completing achievements, finishing in-game missions, or by receiving duplicate cards. Any remaining trade tokens can be exchanged for pack hourglasses or shinedust, with up to 60 pack hourglasses available.

There will be a temporary pause on trading from July 25th, 2025, at 06:00 UTC until July 30th, 2025, at 05:59 UTC while these updates are rolled out. Once the system is back online, everything—from the wishlist feature to shinedust-based trades—will be live.
