Keanu Reeves has shared an exciting update on the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, *Constantine*. The actor confirmed that a script for *Constantine 2* is now in development, following a successful pitch meeting with DC Studios. John Constantine, the iconic occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, was brought to life by Reeves in the original film. The character gained a dedicated following over the years, and fans have been clamoring for a sequel ever since.
Reeves revealed to Inverse that after more than a decade of trying to bring the project to fruition, they have finally crafted a story and pitched it to DC Studios, who gave it the green light to proceed to scriptwriting. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay,'" Reeves stated. This marks a significant step forward for *Constantine 2*, although there are no guarantees yet from DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The sequel is not currently part of the rebooted DCU, and it has not been mentioned by Gunn or Safran as a confirmed project. However, Reeves teased that if *Constantine 2* does come to pass, it will be set in the same universe as the original film. He humorously added that John Constantine would face even more torment in the sequel.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura also weighed in on the project, sharing with ComicBook that a script for *Constantine 2* is already in his inbox. He admitted to being hesitant to read it due to his high hopes for the film. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
