inZOI introduces a compelling mechanic: cities can become overrun by ghosts if too many Zois die with low karma, significantly impacting city life. In a recent interview with PC Gamer, inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim explained the game's intricate karma system.

Kim explains that "Each Zoi action accumulates karma points. Upon death, a karma evaluation determines their soul's state. Low karma results in becoming a ghost, requiring karma redemption before reincarnation."

The accumulation of ghosts has profound consequences. Kim states, "Too many ghosts prevent new Zois from being born or families from forming. Players are responsible for managing their city's karma balance to avoid ghost town scenarios." This adds a crucial layer of strategic gameplay, forcing players to consider the ethical implications of their Zois' actions.

Respecting The Sims Legacy

He explains, "We see inZOI not as a competitor to The Sims, but as another option for genre fans." He expresses respect for The Sims' legacy, stating, "We respect the legacy The Sims built. Achieving such depth in a short time is challenging, given the vast and complex nature of 'life' in life sim games."

inZOI aims to offer a unique experience, highlighting its distinctive features. Kim points out, " inZOI lets players freely shape their desired lives using creative tools: a realistic visual style (Unreal Engine 5), in-depth customization, and AI-driven creative tools.
