Never accuse Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Studios of lacking a dark, nostalgic streak. A full year after the infamous in-game liberation of Malevelon Creek, the game is sending its players back to the very same planet to defend it against a surging Automaton offensive.
Following a recent Major Order failure, players grew anxious about a return to the Creek, as intelligence suggested the Automatons—spearheaded by their fiery new Incineration Corps—were zeroing in on the Severin Sector. This sector, and Malevelon Creek in particular, was the epicenter of one of Helldivers 2's earliest and most memorable collective moments. Helldivers massed on the planet in a desperate bid to keep the Creek under Super Earth's control.
The brutal combination of dense jungle terrain and lethally efficient enemies earned Malevelon Creek nicknames like "Robot Vietnam." After the battle concluded and the Creek was secured, Arrowhead released a special commemorative cape to honor the fight.
Over the weekend, a new Major Order has now confirmed that Helldivers will indeed be returning to Malevelon Creek. The Incineration Corps-led offensive is underway, with the Creek as its primary target. Invasions and skirmishes have already erupted across the sector, with battle lines steadily pushing toward the infamous planet.
Super Earth's in-game briefing implores Helldivers to protect the final resting place of the many "Creekers" who fell liberating the planet. The stated goal is to prevent the "greatest net desecration" ahead of the upcoming Malevelon Creek Memorial Day.
New MAJOR ORDER

As expected, the Helldivers 2 community is electrified by this Major Order. The game's subreddit flooded with memes referencing everything from Starship Troopers to the Doom Slayer and, somehow, Delicious in Dungeon. Veterans of the original Creek battle—who faced endless swarms of bots lighting up the sky—are gearing up for a second round.
Newer players who missed the first fight for the Creek also appear eager to dive in and experience this legendary location for themselves. These large-scale communal efforts, where players log on and build toward a shared objective, are a hallmark of the game. When they tie into an ongoing narrative and foster a sense of shared history within the universe, the results can be truly remarkable.
Of course, concerns are already mounting that Arrowhead hasn't revealed its full hand. One community post notes that while defensive efforts are currently successful and Malevelon Creek remains secure, the Major Order still has five days remaining. Squads are focusing on specific objectives as the sector continues to be a hotbed for Automaton incursions. Watching this story unfold in real-time is captivating, and it’s sure to make for an exciting week for Helldivers as the war for the Creek intensifies.
