The new GTA 6 trailer has arrived, and in case you missed it, we decoded all of the hidden details and easter eggs from the footage. Sadly, we’ll need to wait until May 26, 2026, to finally play through Lucia and Jason’s story. So, while we wait, why not look back at all the incredible Rockstar games we’ve enjoyed over the years and rank them for fun?
Since its founding in 1998, Rockstar has developed and published more than 30 games and is known for iconic franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and Manhunt. But which one takes the crown? Just to be clear, you won’t see titles like L.A. Noire or Max Payne 2 here, since we’re focusing only on games developed by Rockstar, not just published by them. I’ve gone ahead and ranked them using one of our IGN Tier Lists, purely based on my personal enjoyment over time. Take a look at my tier list here:

Red Dead Redemption 2 is my all-time favorite game, so placing it in the S-tier was an easy call. It’s joined there—perhaps unsurprisingly—by its predecessor and GTA 5, both pioneers of cinematic open-world gaming. I also have a soft spot for Max Payne 3 and its balletic bullet-time action, along with GTA San Andreas (a game I probably played way too young). At the other end, in the D-tier, you’ll find titles like Austin Powers: Oh, Behave! and Welcome to My Underground Lair!, games that honestly almost nobody wants to revisit.
Don’t agree with my picks? Think Vice City outshines GTA 4? Then go ahead and build your own Rockstar game tier list. You can compare your S, A, B, C, and D rankings with the entire IGN community right here:

With only two trailers released so far, where do you think GTA 6 will land once it’s finally out? Share your thoughts in the comments—and don’t forget to tell us why you ranked the games the way you did.
