The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) may eventually make its way to PC, hinted at by statements from Take-Two Interactive's CEO Strauss Zelnick and Rockstar Games' history with major releases. Dive into the latest developments and future possibilities surrounding GTA 6.
GTA 6 on PC Unconfirmed, But Take-Two Shows Interest
While Grand Theft Auto 6 has not been officially announced for PC, there are strong indications of a future release. During an interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the platforms for their upcoming titles. He mentioned that Civilization 7 would launch on both console and PC, but noted that historically, Rockstar Games, a Take-Two subsidiary, tends to release games on some platforms initially before expanding to others.
For instance, GTA 5 debuted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC release following in November 2019.
Though a PC version of GTA 6 remains unconfirmed, Zelnick's comments suggest a strong interest in eventually bringing the game to PC. Fans of the series have hoped for a simultaneous PC launch given the title's anticipated scale, but historical trends indicate a delayed PC release.
Take-Two Confident About GTA 6 Sales Across All Platforms
Zelnick emphasized the growing significance of the PC market, stating that a PC version of a multiplatform game can account for up to 40% of total sales. He remarked, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."
Despite declining sales of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes the game's release will boost console sales for Sony and Xbox, stating, "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles."
Zelnick added, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."
GTA 6 is slated for release in Fall 2025, though no specific date has been announced. Stay updated on the latest news by visiting our Grand Theft Auto 6 page.
More Take-Two and Rockstar Games Possibly Releasing on Switch 2
During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick highlighted their interest in expanding to the Switch 2 console. He noted their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and said, "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release."
Zelnick also acknowledged the evolution of the Switch's audience, stating, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 set to release on Switch, he added, "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch."
