The GTA 6 mapping project has shifted into high gear following the release of Trailer 2, with a key member stating to IGN, "it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The GTA 6 Mapping Discord, home to 370 members and soon to reach 400, is abuzz as they dive into the wealth of new information provided by the trailer.
Garza, who manages the Discord server, shared with IGN, "It's an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year. We have so much new content to work on and we’re really just getting started." The project, which kicked off in the wake of the massive September 2022 leaks, aims to create the most accurate GTA 6 map possible. Prior to Trailer 2, their work was based on those leaks and the content from December 2023's Trailer 1.
The latest iteration of the GTA 6 map, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, is now outdated. Trailer 2's flood of information is set to help refine and detail the map significantly.

Rockstar, alongside confirming plot details and characters, unveiled 70 new GTA 6 screenshots and details about various explorable locations in Leonida, GTA 6's version of Florida. Confirmed areas include Vice City (akin to Miami), the Leonida Keys archipelago, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and the national landmark Mount Kalaga, located near the state's northern border.
The dedicated volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint exact locations and correlate the fictional settings with their real-world inspirations. Once their analysis is complete, DuPz0r will release an updated map, offering fans the clearest preview yet of what to anticipate from GTA 6, set for release in May 2026.
Should Rockstar release further GTA 6 assets or gameplay footage, the volunteers stand ready to refine their map further. Only upon the game's release will they be able to gauge the accuracy of their efforts by comparing it to the actual game world.

However, looming over the project is the threat of intervention from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, which previously forced a modder to stop work on a GTA 6 map recreation in GTA 5. When asked about the potential for action from Take-Two, Garza expressed "some mild concern." He noted, "This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community. However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
