NPIXEL has announced the unfortunate closure of Gran Saga, bringing an end to its international service on April 30th, 2025. In-app purchases are already disabled, and downloads are no longer available. This marks a short lifespan for the global version, which launched only in November 2024.
While Gran Saga enjoyed initial success in its 2021 Japanese release, its global launch failed to gain significant traction in the fiercely competitive mobile gaming market. The developers cite financial instability and the inability to sustain the service as the primary reasons for the shutdown. Established games with dedicated player bases present a significant hurdle for newcomers, requiring a truly innovative approach to thrive.
Gran Saga’s closure reflects a broader trend in the gacha RPG market, with several titles succumbing to market saturation. Players who made in-app purchases have until May 30th to request a refund, though the possibility of a successful refund depends on usage and other store policies.
