GOG has unveiled its newest initiative: one-click mods.
The PC platform explained that since mod installation can be time-consuming, its One-Click Mods project allows players to browse, install, and play mods "faster and easier than before." To this end, GOG has curated a selection of premium mods and bundled them directly with their corresponding games for a seamless installation process.
The company also emphasized that mods are an essential part of video game preservation. Community-created mods can fix bugs, restore cut quests, scenes, and characters, and introduce fresh, fan-made content.
We can't wait to get Skyblivion into your hands later this year! Thanks to our friends over @GOGcom for helping us make that easier and more accessible. https://t.co/nxk8kXx7Qr

The current library includes mods for Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete, Doom 3, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, and Fallout 4. The Heroes of Might and Magic 3 mod adds new factions, campaigns, creatures, artifacts, and quality-of-life upgrades like a functional multiplayer lobby. For Fallout 4, the offering is Fallout: London, a one-click installation of a standalone story set in the UK during the Fallout 4 apocalypse.
For Doom 3, players get the Phobos mod, a prequel delivering a narrative-driven, classic-style FPS experience with modern enhancements. The Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines mod is the unofficial patch, resolving many bugs left by the original developers and restoring enhanced cut content, including quests, levels, characters, and dialogue.
Furthermore, the highly anticipated Skyblivion mod for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is coming to GOG later this year and will join the One-Click Mods project.
Skyblivion is a volunteer-driven project by the TESRenewal modding group, aiming to remake The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within Skyrim: Special Edition. Bethesda has endorsed the project, even gifting Oblivion Remastered keys to the entire Skyblivion team, despite releasing its own Oblivion Remastered in April.
This initiative is GOG's latest effort in game preservation. Last year, the company announced a preservation program to ensure the longevity of titles like Resident Evil, Fallout: New Vegas, and The Witcher 2. This addresses growing concerns among developers and players that the shift toward digital-only games could lead to titles becoming entirely unavailable, as happened with The Crew, which Ubisoft delisted and shut down in March 2024.
