The acclaimed Spanish studio MercurySteam, renowned for its contributions to titles such as *Castlevania: Lords of Shadow* and *Metroid Dread*, has announced its latest endeavor: an action-RPG called *Blades of Fire*. In partnership with publisher 505 Games, this game is set to plunge players into a dark fantasy realm teeming with enigmatic races and terrifying creatures.
The debut trailer reveals a thrilling hack-and-slash combat system, a distinctive visual aesthetic, and an immersive, dark atmosphere. *Blades of Fire* echoes the gameplay and artistic flair of *Lords of Shadow*, while its world and enemy designs draw clear inspiration from *Darksiders*. A standout feature from the trailer is a mechanical bird, hinting at its role as a means for the protagonist to navigate the expansive game world.
Developed using MercurySteam's proprietary Mercury Engine, *Blades of Fire* aims to sidestep the optimization challenges commonly faced by many contemporary titles built on Unreal Engine 5. This bespoke engine could offer smoother gameplay and enhanced graphical fidelity.
Mark your calendars for the release of *Blades of Fire* on May 22, 2025. The game will be accessible on next-gen consoles, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, as well as on PC through the Epic Games Store (EGS).
