In a surprising move, Playground Games has announced that the highly acclaimed racing game, Forza Horizon 5, is making its way to the PlayStation 5 this spring. This marks another Xbox exclusive transitioning to the PlayStation console, following in the footsteps of titles like Sea of Thieves and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Developed in collaboration with Panic Button and Turn 10 Studios, the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5 will boast the same rich content available on Xbox and PC. Fans can look forward to enjoying all the additional content, including Car Packs, as well as the thrilling Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure expansions.
This strategic shift reflects Xbox's growing interest in expanding its game library to non-Xbox platforms, including PlayStation and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Xbox head Phil Spencer has openly expressed the company's intent to broaden its reach to these consoles.
Recent financial reports from Microsoft indicate a mixed bag of results. While Indiana Jones and the Great Circle attracted 4 million players and Game Pass on PC saw a 30% growth, boosting services revenue by 2%, overall gaming revenue declined, with console sales dropping by nearly 30%. This downturn may encourage Xbox to further prioritize its Game Pass service and explore opportunities on other hardware platforms.
Forza Horizon 5 continues the beloved open-world racing series, offering a more arcade-like experience compared to its simulation-focused counterpart, Forza Motorsport. Players can immerse themselves in the stunning landscapes of Mexico, racing and exploring at their leisure. For a deeper dive into the game, you can check out our comprehensive review here.
