Forspoken, despite its free PS Plus offering nearly a year post-release, continues to spark heated debate among players. The game's inclusion in the December 2024 PS Plus Extra and Premium lineup generated surprisingly positive initial reactions, with many expressing anticipation for both Forspoken and Sonic Frontiers.
However, this enthusiasm hasn't been universally shared. A significant portion of those who played Forspoken for free abandoned it after a few hours, citing poor storytelling and what they described as "ridiculous dialogue." While some appreciated the combat, parkour mechanics, and overall gameplay, the prevailing sentiment suggests that the narrative and dialogue significantly detract from the overall experience. Many found the game became intolerable when focusing on the story.
It seems unlikely that the PS Plus release will revitalize Forspoken's reception. The game's inherent inconsistencies, a common criticism, remain a significant hurdle. The core gameplay loop features Frey, a New Yorker transported to the breathtaking yet perilous land of Atia. Armed with newfound magical abilities, she must navigate this expansive world, battling monstrous creatures and powerful matriarchs known as the Tants, all in a desperate attempt to return home.
