Equipping the Torch
To equip your torch, access your inventory. First, equip a pouch. Then, select the torch and equip it. Exit the inventory. On consoles, hold down the d-pad to activate the torch. PC players should press the R key. A red shield icon next to the torch in your inventory confirms it's equipped. Remember, torches have a limited burn time; keep spares handy. Note that you can only equip a torch alongside a one-handed weapon; two-handed weapons and shields are incompatible with torch use.
Why Use a Torch?
Beyond improved visibility in darkness, carrying a torch is mandatory in settlements and towns after dark. Guards will pursue and question you if seen without one, demanding a bribe or imprisonment. Locals may also be less cooperative if you approach them unlit.
