Guardians, brace yourselves — Bungie has just unveiled an exciting lineup of updates and expansions for Destiny 2. Dubbed the "Year of Prophecy," this year brings four major content releases, including two paid expansions and two significant updates accessible to all players.
The first major release, Rite of the Nine, is already live and offers a fresh twist on dungeon adventures. Whether you're a seasoned explorer or new to the dungeon scene, you'll encounter unique challenges and reconnect with familiar characters like Orin. The dungeons themselves, such as Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep, remain beloved, but with new twists and refreshed weapons.
On July 15, the highly anticipated expansion, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, makes its debut. This multi-year saga introduces two compelling characters: Lodi, a new ally, and Ikora, the Warlock Vanguard. Set on the mysterious destination Kepler, this expansion promises new enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities, encouraging deep exploration and player-driven discoveries.
Simultaneously, a series of core game updates will enhance gameplay. Players can look forward to revamped armor and gear systems, creating more opportunities for strategic build crafting. Additionally, a new activity selection screen called the Portal will allow players to choose between Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the newly introduced Solo Ops. These changes aim to cater to various playstyles, offering tailored experiences and deeper customization through 50 new activity modifiers.
As part of the pre-order offerings, players can unlock exclusive rewards, including exotic ghosts, legendary emblems, and ships. The Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition provides even more treasures, such as a new exotic sniper rifle, ornaments, and catalysts, ensuring players are well-equipped for the journey ahead.
Following The Edge of Fate, another major update titled Ash & Iron launches on September 9, introducing the second expansion, Renegades, on December 2. The Year of Prophecy concludes with the Shadow & Order update on March 3, featuring lore-inspired themes reminiscent of the Star Wars universe.
This announcement arrives amid significant changes at Bungie, following layoffs that impacted nearly a third of its workforce. Despite these challenges, Bungie remains committed to delivering engaging content. Additionally, fans eagerly await the upcoming reboot of the classic franchise, Marathon, set to release later this year.
