How to Unlock and Find The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
To unlock The Tournament, you'll need to engage with Gyoji, a character found in Yamato. After eliminating several members of The Shinbakufu, Gyoji will appear outside your hideout, eager to discuss the secret fighting arena located at Ominesanji Temple in Southeastern Yamato. Before heading to the temple, make sure to synchronize at the Ominesanji Overlook viewpoint to the west of the area. This creates a convenient fast travel point, allowing you to switch characters if necessary.
Upon arriving at Ominesanji Temple, have another conversation with Gyoji. He will brief you on the upcoming challenge: four one-on-one duels followed by a confrontation with the ultimate champion. Once the cutscene concludes, ring the bell to kick off your first fight.
How to Complete The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
The Tournament is a gauntlet of intense, life-or-death battles. Fortunately, you can take breaks between fights, allowing time to heal with rations and adjust or upgrade your weapons and armor as needed. To progress through the tournament, simply ring the bell to initiate each subsequent fight.
For optimal success, we recommend using Yasuke with a long katana, focusing on dodging and parrying to exploit the fighters' vulnerabilities. Utilize abilities like Power Dash and Payback when you have sufficient adrenaline. Knowing your opponents' weapons can also give you a strategic advantage. Here’s a breakdown of the fighters you'll face:
- Lady Masago: Naginata
- Lord Suguru: Katana
- Lord Hokuto: Kanabo
- Lady O-Sen: Two Poison Katanas, throws ranged items
- Lord Unkai: Naginata, can heal by drinking if you stay away too long
After defeating all opponents, speak with Gyoji atop the hill. He will express gratitude for his freedom and hint at future tournaments. The "Test Your Might" trophy will unlock during this conversation.
Best Loadout and Skills for Tournaments in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
The Long Katana is your weapon of choice for The Tournament. Equip the highest rarity Long Katana available, and enhance it at your hideout’s blacksmith to its maximum level. Consider adding engravings that boost Armor Damage or Armor Piercing. Armor selection is crucial, as it not only increases your health but can also equip engravings that alter combat dynamics.
Prior to entering The Tournament, ensure you have the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend, obtained by defeating The Ox, a Shinbakufu leader. Additionally, acquire the Protector’s Armor by completing a Castle. The former provides a 75% damage increase but reduces your health to 25%, while the latter enables you to parry unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings can drastically reduce fight times to under a minute, provided you parry effectively.
For skills, allocate your Mastery points into the Long Katana and Samurai trees. Maximize Combat Expert to enhance your melee weapon damage and unlock Power Dash and Payback for better combat efficiency.
