Prime Video's "Butterfly" is an adaptation of BOOM! Studios' graphic novel series by Arash Amel. It's described as a character-driven spy thriller that delves into family relationships against a backdrop of global espionage.
The series centers on David Jung (Kim), a mysterious and unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea. His life is thrown into chaos when a difficult choice from his past resurfaces, putting him in the crosshairs of Rebecca (Hardesty), a lethal, sociopathic agent tasked with eliminating him, and her employer, the shadowy spy organization known as Caddis.
“Butterfly fulfills a long-held dream to collaborate with American and Korean storytellers on a series that connects two cultures I hold dear,” said Kim. “I’m delighted with the talented team we've assembled, both on-screen and behind the scenes, and I extend my gratitude to Ken Woodruff, Boom! Studios, 3AD, Amazon, and everyone involved in making this project a reality.”
"The Mentalist" and "Gotham" veteran Ken Woodruff is the showrunner and co-creator with celebrated novelist Steph Cha. The cast also includes Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake, and Nayoon Kim, with Sung Dong-il and Lee Il-hwa appearing in guest roles.
Woodruff and Cha executive produce alongside Kim, with John Cheng for 3AD; Stephen Christy and Ross Richie for BOOM! Studios; and Arash Amel for The Amel Company also serving as executive producers.
