Sometimes, simplicity in gaming can be refreshing. Without unnecessary complications or innovative twists, a straightforward addition to a classic genre can be exactly what you need. For better or worse, Blob Attack: Tower Defense fits this description perfectly. Created by solo developer Stanislav Buchkov, let's explore what this game brings to the table.
There isn't much that stands out about this title, as it's developed by a single person and currently available on the iOS App Store. You'll perform all the typical actions expected in the tower defense genre: build defensive structures, gather energy, and unlock more powerful weapons to repel your enemies.
In this case, your opponents are the increasingly popular slime creatures we've seen in games like Dragon Quest, which have become a staple in fantasy gaming. However, as with most things, there are some drawbacks to consider.

Unfortunately, what immediately caught my attention about Blob Attack was the apparent use of AI-generated art on its store page and presumably within the game itself. This is particularly disappointing because although the game appears simple, that doesn't automatically mean it should lack visual appeal. The presence of AI art tends to discourage me from giving games the fair chance they might otherwise deserve.
Looking at the developer's other projects on the App Store reveals this seems to be a recurring pattern. It's a shame because titles like Dungeon Craft (a pixel-art RPG) show potential, but the underlying use of computer-generated artwork diminishes their appeal.
If you're open to alternatives, we have some suggestions for you. Consider checking out the latest installment of Off the AppStore to discover interesting games available on other third-party platforms.
