Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has released a new trailer for their upcoming sci-fi adventure, The Alters, highlighting its connection to their critically acclaimed war survival game, This War of Mine. The new trailer reflects on the studio's iconic past, showcasing the journey from the bleak realities of This War of Mine to the more vibrant, humorous narrative of The Alters.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its grim and hopeless atmosphere, The Alters offers a more passionate and often humorous story centered on alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite the tonal differences, the developers emphasize a strong thematic link between the two games.
Both games share a core focus on survival, albeit in vastly different contexts. In This War of Mine, players grapple with the brutal realities of war in a besieged city, meticulously managing resources and facing daily challenges to keep their civilian group alive. The Alters, conversely, presents survival as a frantic race against time, demanding players constantly relocate their mobile base to escape a relentless, dust-inducing sun.
Both titles push players beyond their comfort zones, forcing them to explore hostile environments in search of vital resources. The key distinction lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine guides players through the experiences of a group of ordinary civilians, while The Alters features a unique team composed of alternate versions of the main character, promising a fresh and engaging gameplay experience.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on launch day.
